那是 1990 年 10 月下旬，正是寒意襲來的時候。冬天讓聆聽短波變得更有溫度。搭配這臺值得信賴的 SHARF GF767 立體聲音響及收音機卡式錄音機，我的愛好是發現新電臺並收集他們的 QSL卡。發現新訊號的興奮感是無與倫比的，每個冬天都帶來了新的發現。
有一天晚上，當我仔細掃著短波頻道時，我偶然發現了一個微弱的訊號。內容似乎提到了“自由中國”，但信號微弱，那天晚上我再也收不到它了。我沒有放棄，繼續尋找，希望能再次捕捉到這個訊號。
差不多一個月後，我的堅持得到了回報。清晰且年輕的聲音宣稱「這是自由中國之聲」，是一個英語節目。這一次，我準備好了，拿著我的 5 公尺室內環形天線連接到接收器的伸縮桿，發出的訊號更強。終於，我寫了一份詳細的收聽報告並寄出去，期待的等待QSL卡。
但是，幾週變成了幾個月，卻沒有收到任何回應。那時我發現了我犯了一個錯誤——不小心將我的報告寄給了中國國際廣播電臺（CRI）而不是自由中國之聲，中國這個字讓我寫成CRI。這錯誤令人沮喪又有趣，這是我早期用DX通信時犯的小錯誤。
決定不再重蹈覆轍，我再次收聽成功了！收聽了自由中國之聲的廣播。這次我不僅寄了正確的收聽報告，也參加那時自由中國之聲舉辦的比賽，比賽是關於一系列對或錯的問題，令我驚訝的是，我竟然所有答案都正確。這感覺實在無比難忘。
當我收到來自中華民國台北的包裹時，我的喜悅實在無法形容。裡面不只有一張 QSL 卡，還有一份禮物和貼紙。當下的幸福感是無止境的。這是最初與自由中國之聲聯繫的開始。
在這之後，我成為了自由中國之聲的狂熱聽眾，並都會定期收聽，同時也在尋找其他訊號，例如來自台灣的亞洲之聲。當我收到德國 Deutsche Welle 的 Grundig YB 400 接收器時，我的廣播旅程更是升級了，聆聽感官更上一層樓，接收器也變成了一件珍貴的收藏品。
調到Rti 短波是相當困難的。需要面對無數干擾的挑戰不可預測的短波讓每一次成功接收都更有意義。儘管困難重重，但我對Rti 的支持從未動搖過。
2006 年，我對Rti 的熱愛使我成立孟加拉國聽眾俱樂部。會見Rti 董事長馮正先生和外語節目部的 Lin 和 Carlson Wang 先生是此生難忘的機會。到現在，俱樂部的會員已增至 192 名。透過俱樂部，我們繼續在孟加拉的聽眾裡推廣Rti，培育一個充滿活力的無線電愛好者社群。
歲月流逝，我對Rti的情誼始終堅定不移。在此基礎上形成的紐帶隨著時間的推移，1990 年十月的夜晚變得更加寒冷。我與Rti 的友誼萬歲，願你們在未來的許多年裡繼續蓬勃發展。
A Memorable Encounter with Radio Taiwan International
It was late October 1990, a time when the chill of winter made shortwave radio hunting an enticing hobby. Equipped with my trusty SHARF GF767 Stereo Radio Cassette Recorder, I was on a mission to discover new stations and collect their coveted QSL cards. The thrill of identifying a new signal was unmatched, and each winter brought the promise of fresh discoveries.
While meticulously scanning the shortwave bands one evening, I stumbled upon a faint and intriguing broadcast. The announcement seemed to mention “Free China,” but the signal was weak, and I couldn’t catch it again that night. Undeterred, I continued my search, hoping to capture that elusive station once more.
Almost a month later, my persistence paid off. A clear and youthful voice proclaimed, “This is the Voice of Free China.” It was an English program, and this time, I was ready. With my 5-meter indoor loop antenna attached to the telescopic rod of my receiver, the signal came through stronger. Excitedly, I wrote a detailed reception report and mailed it off, eagerly awaiting a QSL card.
However, weeks turned into months, and no response arrived. It was then that I discovered my mistake—I had accidentally sent my report to China Radio International (CRI) instead of the Voice of Free China (the word China guides me to write CRI). The realization was both frustrating and amusing, a rookie mistake in my early days of DXing.
Determined not to repeat my error, I tuned in once again and successfully caught the Voice of Free China’s broadcast. This time, I not only sent a correct reception report but also participated in a contest they were hosting. The contest featured a series of true or false questions, and to my astonishment, I got all the answers right. It felt like a miracle.
The joy I felt when I received a package from Taipei, Republic of China, was indescribable. Inside was not just a QSL card but also a delightful gift and a sticker. My happiness knew no bounds. It was the beginning of a lifelong connection with Radio Taiwan International.
Following that initial connection, I became an avid listener of the Voice of Free China, regularly tuning in and also seeking out other signals, such as the Voice of Asia from Taiwan. My radio adventures were enhanced when I received a Grundig YB 400 receiver from Deutsche Welle, Germany, a prized addition to my collection.
Tuning into RTI on shortwave was quite an adventure. The challenges of jamming, interference, and unpredictable propagation made each successful reception all the more rewarding. Despite these hurdles, my commitment to RTI never wavered.
In 2006, my passion for RTI led to the establishment of the RTI Listeners Club of Bangladesh. Meeting RTI Chairman Mr. Feng Jeng Lin and Mr. Carlson Wang of RTI’s English service was a pivotal moment. The club has since grown to 192 active members. Through the club, we continue to promote RTI among listeners in Bangladesh, fostering a vibrant community of radio enthusiasts.
As the years have flown by, my dedication to RTI has remained steadfast. The bond formed on that cold October night in 1990 has only grown stronger with time. Long live my friendship with RTI, and may it continue to thrive for many years to come.
