我第一次接觸中央廣播電臺是在1983年。
我的名字是Joé Leyder，自從我在1978年的一個雨天午后，無意間調到父母的雙音響系統的短波頻率以來，我便成為了熱衷的短波聽眾。當時對於無線電的傳播或接收細節沒有任何先前的知識，我意外地收到了伊拉克巴格達的法語廣播服務。當我聽到一段演講，並寫了幾行關於自己的簡介後，幾周後收到了回信，我高興得無法自已，從那時起我便對廣播產生了濃厚的興趣。
我隨著時間的推移，開始更具針對性地收聽，並在這些年裡收到了來自130多個不同國家的QSL驗證卡。台灣也不例外，由於我也會說法語、德語和西班牙語，因此我能夠收聽您的多個節目。
我附上了一張來自當時自由中國之聲英語組的早期QSL卡。我參加了一些比賽，贏得了幾個獎品，其中包括T恤和日曆，並且可以說我已經成為了中華民國的朋友。作為一名在蘇格蘭阿伯丁大學的學生，我於1989年畢業，這段經歷讓我對公平有了深刻的認識，並對弱勢群體充滿同情。這正是我每當聽到台灣長期以來抵抗共產中國強行統一的計劃時感到無比自豪的原因。我衷心地向這個民主國家致敬，因為它在面對各種外交障礙（如世界衛生組織等）時仍然堅持獨立，即使這只是事實上的獨立，而非法律上的獨立。
我通過您的節目非常密切地關注台灣的新聞，雖然我必須承認，隨著網路的興起，我的短波成功收聽變得有限，我不想因為在我們的花園裡設置天線而惹怒我的妻子。
我希望您的電臺能夠繼續廣播很多年。

My first contact with RTI way back in 1983.
My name is Joé Leyder and I have been a keen shortwave listener ever since I ventured onto my parents’ DUAL hifi stereo’s shortwave dial one rainy afternoon in 1978. Without prior knowledge of propagation or reception details I stumbled across the French language service of Radio Baghdad, Iraq and when I listened to an address, wrote a few lines about myself and got a reply a few weeks later I was over the moon and have been hooked ever since.
I went on to listen more specifically and over the years have received QSL verification cards from over 130 different countries. Taiwan is no exception and as I speak French, German and Spanish too, I am able to listen to various of your programs.
I join one of my first QSLs from the English section of what was then the Voice of Free China. I entered a few competitions, won a few prizes, T-shirts and calendars among them and can say that I have become a friend of the Republic of China. As a student at Aberdeen University in Scotland from where I graduated in 1989 I have been instilled with the sense of fairness and feeling with the underdogs and this is exactly what makes me so proud when I hear that Taiwan has long been fighting Communist China’s plans of forceful reunification. I honestly bow my head to the democratic republic as it withstands all diplomatic hurdles (WHO etc) and keeps on being an independent country, even if this is just de facto, not de jure.
I follow the news about Taiwan very closely through your programs, although I must admit that with the advent of the Internet, my shortwave successes have become limited and I do not want to upset my wife by setting up antennas in our garden.
I hope that your station will continue to be able to broadcast for many years to come.
